Things to do in Austria

Achensee Bahn - Take the cogwheel, steam powered train for an impressive journey to scenic Lake Achen, where you will find facilities for a variety of watersports and boat trips around the lake.

Innsbruck - One of the most attractive cities in Europe, full of charm and character, and a great place to visit while camping in Austria. The historic old town has preserved its medieval appearance, with narrow, irregular streets and beautiful buildings.

Ehrwald – a typical Tyrolean village at the western foot of the Zugspitze, with a cable car leaving from just outside the town. On a clear day there are exhilarating views of peaks and glaciers from the summit.

Reutte – a delightful market town with colourful houses. From the nearby village of Höfen, take a cable car to the lovely Alpine Mountain Gardens.

Kitzbühel – once a prosperous mining town, this is now a fashionable winter resort. The excellent facilities also cater for summer sports including tennis, golf and horse riding. Situated in the valley of the Kitzbüheler Ache the town has a picturesque medieval centre with lovely houses on the parallel streets.

Salzburg – If you choose to camp in Austria, Salzburg is a jewel of a city that is well worth a day trip. The city combines the culture and history of a capital city with the beautiful setting of a small mountain town. As the birthplace of Mozart, the city attracts great musicians. The romantic old town, with its medieval streets and narrow houses, lies on the west bank of the river.

Getting there

Short Sea Crossing
Innsbruck is about 700 miles from Calais. Travelling via Zeebrugge cuts the journey by around 50 miles and gives easier access to toll free German motorways. We recommend an overnight stop at Saarburg or Steinach.

By Air
Fly to Salzburg and Innsbruck is a 99 mile drive.
