Places to see and things to do
Pau – a scenic city that is home to Europe’s oldest golf course. Each May, the city hosts the Pau Vintage Grand Prix, which draws in huge crowds. There are lovely shopping boutiques, plus the castle is well worth a visit when you go camping in the Pyrénées.
Parc National des Pyrénées – a protected wilderness rich in exceptional and rare flora and fauna. This is superb walking and cycling country, with trails to suit all abilities, as well as being a haven for keen cyclists, climbers and watersports enthusiasts.
Lourdes – in 1858, Bernadette Soubirous saw a series of visions of the Virgin Mary in a grotto. Today, over five million pilgrims descend on Lourdes each year, many seeking cures for ailments or disabilities. A visit here is an essential highlight of any Pyrénées camping holiday - visit the grotto where Mary is claimed to have appeared, as well as several basilicas and museums.
Toulouse – a vibrant city with a rich architectural heritage. Named the ‘Ville Rose’ because of its pink buildings, the city is built on the Garonne River, and is the heart of France and Europe’s aerospace programme. The Cité de l’Espace is located three miles from the city centre and is well worth a family day out if you are staying at a nearby Pyrénées campsite.
Auch – a delightful town famed for its 14thcentury cathedral, with stunning stained glass windows. Set on the banks of the River Gers, the town offers a good choice of local restaurants and some excellent shopping.
Mirande – a pretty village located a short drive from our campsite. Home to an attractive 15th Century cathedral, the village transforms for a few days every July when the town square hosts the annual Country and Western Festival!
With its delightful mixture of charming towns and natural beauty, this is one of the most enjoyable holiday destinations in France. A stay at one of our campsites in the Pyrénées offers luxury, comfort, and an unbeatable location amidst some of the finest scenery in the country.
