Bordeaux
The capital of the region is city port on the Garonne river, with 18th century architecture, wide boulevards and excellent shopping. Best known as the wine producing capital of France, visit the many vineyards and château nearby to taste and buy.
Biarritz
Biarritz is a stylish resort that is world famous for its surfing and chic boutiques. Explore the old town and marine centre, before heading to the Rocher de la Vièrge, the white statue of Mary on a rocky outcrop, for a spectacular view of the sunset. An undoubted highlight of camping in South West of France.
St Jean de Luz
is a seaside resort and fishing port that is delightful to explore. An excellent location for watersports that is well known for confetti fights and colourful festivals during the summer months.
Arcachon
Arcachon is a popular boating centre and a major European centre for oyster farming – take a boat trip to the oyster beds, Île aux Oiseaux and Cap Ferret. The cliff road to the south brings you to the resort of Pyla-sur-Mer, renowned for having the highest sand dune in Europe, the Dune du Pilat. Climb the 190 steps to the top for a magnificent view of the Arcachon basin.
Bayonne
Explore a wealth of medieval architecture and colourful Basque style streets. Enjoy a walk along the ramparts for some stunning views of the city and surrounding area. The Fête de Bayonne, held in late July, is the largest and one of the best-known festivals in the area – don’t miss it if you are staying in one of our campsites in South West France.
Dax
This historic city has been famous for 2000 years for the curative properties of its hot springs and mud baths, the largest of its kind in France. The 11th century church of St Paul-les-Dax has interesting exterior carvings of dragons and other beasts.

Short Sea CrossingBiarritz is a 670 mile drive from Calais, so we recommend an overnight stop at Blois or Tours or at a hotel.
Long Sea CrossingTake a mini cruise to Santander or Bilbao and cut down on the driving. From Bilbao it’s 100 miles to Biarritz.
