1. Gardaland (Peschiera)

Situated only 2km from Peschiera, this magical theme park is one of the leading family attractions in Italy, offering something for everyone! The really adventurous should try the Blue Tornado roller coaster which hurtles you through the air at Mach 5! Or the Magic Mountain, a more traditional roller coaster which has two full loops and 2 side spins! Experience a 40m virtual free fall on the Space Vertigo and plummet down waterfalls on the Colorado Boat. Get wet on the Jungle Rapids and experience simulated sensations in the Cinema Dinamico. There are lots of children's rides too, the Village of the Elves, a mini roller coaster, a parrot show every evening and the Palablue dolphin and seal display. 2. Caneva World (Peschiera)

Caneva World has four theme areas which will keep you occupied all day… Dive into the warm tropical lagoons of the water park (Aqua Paradise), go back in time and find yourself in the middle of an exciting medieval tournament (Medieval Times), become a celebrity for a while and dine in the exclusive and sparkling atmosphere of the Rock Star Café and finally dance under the stars during the hot summer nights at the Night Festival. There is something for everybody at this unique theme park – it is one of the most family friendly things to do in Italy.

3. Acqua il Parco (Cecina Mare)

This all-action water park has a choice of attractions; from Kamikaze rides to the more traditional waterslides it's up to you! They are cleverly arranged in a 'user-friendly' way which makes getting around the park very easy and also means that you can watch the children playing on the slides from the tranquillity of the swimming pool and sundeck! The perfect day out whilst on a family camping holiday in Italy.


4. Pistoia Zoo (Pistoia)

This large zoo near Pistoia puts a great deal of emphasis on conservation and breeding programmes, and is one of the essential attractions in Italy for animal lovers. There are over 130 different species of animals including crocodiles, polar bears, giraffes, elephants and the rare Madagascan lemur. There is a restaurant, bar and children's playground to finish off the day. Don't miss the reptile house where you will see a variety of snakes, spiders and bats!

5. Pinocchio park (Collodi)

This park is dedicated to bringing to life the story of Pinocchio. In 1953 a national competition for the Monument to Pinocchio was launched and 84 artists took part in it - see some of the results here. The Land of the Toys is just to the south of the park and here you can see the adventures of Pinocchio represented by 21 bronze sculptures. Whether or not you have read the famous Italian tale, you will be entertained by one of the most child friendly attractions in Italy.

6. Aqualandia (Lido di Jesolo)

Aqualandia Water Park was awarded the Parksmania Award in 2000, deeming it the best Water Park in Italy. Hardly surprising with its huge array of slides, chutes, toboggans and pools to keep everyone amused, wet and happy all day long! As if that wasn't enough, the park also puts on an amazing water show to entertain you and they've recently added a mini-golf course too. If you are camping in Italy, Aqualandia is the perfect place to go on a sunny day, guaranteed to keep the whole family happy.


7. Pisa

Out of all the things to see and do in Italy, few are as memorable as a visit to Pisa. This city, made famous by its world-renowned Leaning Tower, has a great deal to offer its visitors. Pisa offers a wealth of art and architecture, much of it dating back to around the 12th century, and many superb museums including the Opera del Duomo and the National museum of San Matteo. The Leaning Tower itself is perhaps one of the most famous attractions in Italy. There is plenty of parking on the south side of the river, leaving you free to explore this beautiful city on foot.

8. Venice

Venice is an extraordinarily beautiful city, unlike any other, and is an essential place to visit if you are on a camping holiday in Italy. Founded about 1500 years ago on the islands of the Lagoon, today Venice is one of the most famous European cities. A haven for artists, Venice is also one of the world's most foremost art centres. Don't miss the amazing Piazza San Marco, the Basilica San Marco or the Palazzo Ducale - they are quite spectacular. You can easily get around Venice on foot and also by Gondola or Traghetto - detailed maps of pedestrian routes can be obtained from the Tourist office just off the Piazza San Marco.

9. Rome

The Italian capital has some of the most admired sights in the world and certainly the most significant attractions in Italy. It is a bustling, lively city that has something for everyone. Rome is best explored on foot, take your time to wander around and take in the beauty of the city. Sights not to be missed include the Pantheon, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish steps. The Vatican City is an independent state within Rome which has its own currency, postal service and army - this unique city within a city is well worth a visit too.

10. Elba

The island of Elba is the largest off Tuscany and offers beautiful beaches, a mountainous interior and a mild dry climate. It is rich in Mediterranean vegetation and produces delicious Italian wines such as Aleatico and Moscato. Elba's most famous inhabitant was Napoléon who spent his year of exile here between 1814 and 1815. The island can be reached by ferry from Plombino, south along the coast from Cecina. With its unspoilt beauty Elba really is a great place to visit while you are camping in Italy.
