Travel options – getting there is easy
A Canvas holiday starts the minute you leave home, and planning your journey is part of the adventure. There are lots of ways to get there, and we know it can seem confusing at first. So we’ve put together this handy guide with all the information you need.

Free ferry included
To get you started, all of our holiday prices include a return, off-peak crossing from Dover to Calais with P&O ferries. However, for a supplement, you can pick from any of the other routes on offer, or choose to take the Eurotunnel from Folkestone.

Planning your journey is all part of the fun of a Canvas Holiday but when planning your journey don’t forget to consider the following points:
- The time difference. Continental time is one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland.
- When do you want to travel? Early booking is essential, especially if you are travelling on the peak holiday periods.
- Travel time and distance from the ferry or airport to your campsite. Please remember that you need to arrive on site before 10pm.
- Ferry routes – you usually have to book a return ferry crossing with the same ferry operator, although you can use different routes.
- Campsites in Normandy, Paris and the Loire Valley can be reached in a day.
- For Brittany and the Vendée, take an early morning crossing to Calais.
- The good motorway connections mean you can reach the west coast in a day. Many of the motorways in Brittany are toll free.
- If you are driving to the south of France, Spain and Italy, you will need to plan an overnight stop.
- Try to avoid travelling on the French public holidays in July and August, when the motorway traffic gets very heavy.
