Great Days Out in Brittany
1. Cobac amusement park
Cobac park is set in a beautiful wooded area and has a mixture of aquatic rides and land-based activities. There is something for everyone here; whiz down Le Rapido water slide and have a swim in Aqua Corbec, then, when you have dried off, explore the rest of the park. Visit ‘Goat Island’, take a roundtrip on the little train, the children can bounce until their hearts are content on the inflatable’s, then why not finish the day off with a round of mini-golf. A great day out in Brittany for all the family!

Le Mont-Saint-Michel is actually located on an island along the western coast of Normandy, but is very close to some of our campsites on Brittany’s coast. It is in fact an amazing medieval castle built on sharp peaked hill, rendering it visible from the entire bay. There is a long history to Le Mont-Saint-Michel, it is named after the angel Michael who appeared at this site in about AD 500 and King Arthur is supposed to have fought a giant here! The castle is reachable by leaving your car in the car park at the bottom of the hill and walking up. Visiting Le Mont-St-Michel is one of the most popular things to do in Brittany. Just don’t leave too late, as the tide comes in over the car park and you could find your car floating in the sea!

This beautiful port and fishing town has a great deal to offer its visitors. Not only does it have a lovely beach, a pretty town and a wide range of aquariums and sealife centres, but you can also get the best moules frites you have ever tasted from one of the restaurants on the seafront. You can take boat trips from the port and climb the ramparts for superb views across the town and the coastline. St Malo really is a special place and well worth a visit if you are on a camping holiday in Brittany.

This planetarium near Lannion is the second largest in France and the first of its kind to use the newest techniques to make you feel as if you are actually in Space! With its digital technology and 3D interactive shows, you take a trip into the heart of Space. There are several different shows, guiding you through the solar system, the galaxy and the stars which we don’t even know exist! This planetarium is very impressive and will interest all the family – an excellent day out in Brittany.

The Glénan islands are situated off the south coast of Brittany. They are incredibly beautiful and unspoilt thanks to the ongoing conservation project. The popular sailing school and diving school attract many visitors, but it is the islands themselves which attract the most attention. With their long sandy beaches, their clear sea and their amazing array of wildlife these islands a well worth a visit.

The Tumulus de Kercado is the oldest Megalithic monument in the world, dating back from around 4800 BC. The Tumulus itself has an impressive passage grave covered by an earth mound. On the Tumulus you will also find a carving of an axe which is best seen in the early morning or later in the evening. There is a crêperie nearby which comes highly recommended and is the perfect way to end this day out in Brittany.

Océanopolis is a vast aquarium and sea life centre on the Brittany coast. It is home to 60% of France’s research into Marine life. Not only will you see thousands of fish, ranging from plankton to sharks, Océanopolis also has a Polar Pavilion with hundreds of penguins to entertain you! There has been a huge effort made by this aquarium to provide environments for the animals which are as close as possible to their own natural environments and as a result the visitor benefits too! One of a kind, Océanopolis is well worth a visit for families on a camping holiday in Brittany.

This giant factory trawler is quite a sight. The Victor Pleven is the biggest trawler and cod-fishing boat in the world. You can learn about how the 60-strong crew lived and worked on their long trips at sea. The lives of the fishermen are recreated using life-size figures and scenes. All of the information is presented in English. The Victor Pleven has been highly recommended for a great day out in Brittany.

On the Côtes-d'Armor, the archipelago of the Sept-Iles, off Perros-Guirec, provides shelter to the largest sea bird colony in the area. Around 10,000 birds - fifteen different species, nest on Rouzic Island. The bird sanctuary of Cap-Sizun-Goulien is set on an impressive site consisting of soaring cliffs and heath land. If you are interested in ornithology then you may be interested in the discovery hikes organised by the bird sanctuary.
10. Parc de Préhistoire de Bretagne
At this prehistoric park you will find yourself taken back in time 350 million years. On walking through the park you will come across over 30 scenes containing life-size models of dinosaurs and people. The dinosaurs are made of resin which gives them a particularly life-like feel. The park then progresses through history, depicting early-man, the first inhabitant of Brittany and the time of the Megaliths. This park is a glimpse into the ancient history, and a day trip here is one of the popular things to do in Brittany.
