Holidays with wine tasting

One of the big attractions of a Canvas holiday is enjoying the local food and wine, and perhaps selecting a few bottles to tuck in the car boot for the journey home.

And we think there’s no better way to do just that than relaxing with friends and family outside your tent or round the barbeque.

Or maybe you’re a serious connoisseur who likes nothing better than comparing vintages on a tour of the finest estates.

Visiting a vineyard or cellar for a wine-tasting experience makes a great day out but wine-tasting weekends are also great for a short break or as part of a multi-centre holiday.

And naturally, we’ve got some great campsites that are perfectly situated for wine tasting: weekends away or long summer holidays, it’s one of the great pleasures of a French camping holiday!

For more information visit our regional pages for the LoireBurgundy and the Dordogne or check out our top picks for wine tasting weekends and holidays.

Our campsite at Gigny-sur-Saône is a great base for exploring the vineyards of the Côte Chalonnaise and the wider Burgundy region. Visit the wine museum at Beaune, or follow the Route des Grands Crus from Dijon to Santenay.

Loire Valley
Canvas has a good choice of campsites in the Loire Valley, where the best known wines include Muscadet, Vouvray and Sancerre.

In Chinon there’s an unusual wine museum where life-sized animated models show how wine is made. In Saumur you can visit wine cellars deep below the ground, in old quarries that once supplied stone for the Loire chateaux.

From our Dordogne campsites you can discover regional wines such as Bergerac or travel a little west to taste the great wines of the Bordeaux region and visit picturesque wine villages such as St Emilion. Visits to the top châteaux must be arranged in advance.
