Advice for the
'first time' traveller
You can reach most of our campsites in Normandy, Paris and the Loire within a day.
If you are heading for Brittany or the Vendée take an early morning Calais crossing. The new motorway connections mean you can reach our west coast resorts in a day. Many motorways in Brittany are toll free.
If you plan to visit SW France or the French Mediterranean you will need to stop en route unless you opt for Motorail. You can break your journey at a Canvas campsite or an hotel.
If you are planning to visit Italy allow 2 days for the trip. Plan an overnight stop at a campsite or an hotel.
Try to avoid travelling on the French public holidays in July and August - the motorway traffic is very heavy.
Please note that in France, Germany, Spain and Italy, the law requires you to carry a high visibility jacket or waistcoat in your car at all times. These must be worn if leaving a vehicle on the carriageway of a motorway or non-urban highway, anytime, day or night.
