A landscape of fertile green pastures and transparent lakes, majestic
peaks and bubbling rivers, interspersed with colourful mountain villages
and medieval market towns. A superb region for exploring, with transfixing
views around each and every corner.
Switzerland
Jungfrau Railway – this railway winds upwards
through beautiful scenery to a glacier, stunning views and, at 11,000
feet, the highest station in Europe.
Zermatt – a pretty village, offering a stupendous
view of the Matterhorn. This is a year-round ski resort, with many
summer trails, as well as outstanding glacier and mountain walks.
Bern – the capital of Switzerland, an extremely
pretty and lively city. Visit the famous bear pits, a feature of the
town since the 15th century.
Saas-Fee – a charming village and popular ski
resort, known as the ‘Pearl of the Alps’. A superb starting
point for many pleasant alpine walks, and famous for its year round
skiing.
Austria
Achensee Bahn – take the cogwheel, steam powered
train for an impressive journey to scenic Lake Achen, where you will
find facilities for a variety of watersports and boat trips around
the lake.
Innsbruck – one of the most attractive cities
in Europe, full of charm and character. The historic old town has
preserved its medieval appearance, with narrow, irregular streets
and beautiful buildings.
