Burgundy is one of France’s best kept secrets where luxurious green and gold undulating countryside is
intermingled with immaculately kept vineyards and dense woodland. The region is home to some of the finest
cuisine in France and world famous wine producing towns.
Beaune – the wine capital of Burgundy and one of the
best places in France for wine tasting. A well-preserved town, still
surrounded by medieval walls.
Dijon – a cultural and gastronomic centre, famed for
its fine wines and mustard. This is an appealing city to explore,
with many Renaissance buildings.
Mâcon – a lively river port that is home to the national
wine fair and some fine Burgundy tastings. The Maison
du Bois is an ornately carved wooden house that is well
worth visiting.
Besançon – a Roman town with a citadel at the centre offering fabulous views
over the town as well as three interesting museums. The town is also well known
for watch and clock making.
Châteauneuf – a medieval village which is one of the oldest and most
picturesque in France. Situated on top of a hill overlooking the Auxois
plain and the Vandenesse valley, the village offers a wealth of cultural
events from concerts to fairs to art exhibitions.
Tournus – an attractive old town on the river Saône which retains much
of its medieval charm. The huge L'Abbaye of St-Philibert is considered to be
one of France’s most impressive sacred Romanesque buildings.
