Monchique - well known for its Roman granitestone
terraces, this mountainous area is considered
the most beautiful part of the Algarve. Drive up to
Foia, the highest point, for splendid panoramic views
and make an indulgent trip to the famous Caldas spa.
Ria Formosa Nature Reserve – this narrow strip of land
is separated from the sea by vast sand dunes, behind which
lie a maze of lagoons and small sand islands. Admire the
birdlife while you picnic or hike through this protected area.
Sagres – neighbouring Cape St. Vincent, the southwestern
most tip of Europe, many a voyage of discovery began here.
Revel in the dramatic views of the Atlantic Ocean from its
towering sheer cliffs and its unspoilt beaches.
Faro – visit the walled capital of the region, rich in history with a
large number of monuments, cathedrals, churches, and museums,
as well as Moorish and Roman ruins.
Lagos – enclosed within 15th century walls, this city and charming
marina have much to offer. Visit the magnificent churches, the
Governors’ Palace, and the ancient slave market.
Silves – this former Moorish capital has a rich historical heritage with castles, cathedrals, museums and the 6m tall Cross of Portugal to explore.
Portimão – this bustling cosmopolitan resort boasts the renowned Praia da Rocha, the lovely beaches of Alvor and Vau, and an excellent selection of restaurants and shops.
