About the region…Lake Garda

Lake Garda

There’s no doubt that one of the best ways to explore Italy is by camping. Lake Garda is the largest of the Italian lakes and in summer its clear blue waters make for delightfully refreshing swimming. With olive and citrus groves fringing its shores, the hills of the south give way to majestic mountains in the north, creating regular breezes that make Lake Garda perfect for sailing and watersports.

What to do in Lake Garda:

  • Italy’s largest magical theme park, Gardaland, is set out in realms of history, geography, space and fantasy, and offers many exhilarating rides: from the Blue Tornado to the Sequoia Adventure. A themed aquarium is home to thousands of marine creatures, recreating habitats from the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean.
  • The spa town of Sirmione stands on a peninsula at the southern end of Lake Garda. As well as mud baths and massages you can visit the moated castle, take ferry trips to other towns around the lake, or just enjoy the shops – especially the amazing gelateria.  The Grotte di Catullo is a vast ruined Roman villa, named after the poet Catullus.
  • A beautiful and romantic city – it is where Shakespeare set Romeo and Juliet after all – Verona dates back to the Romans. Operas are staged in the Arena di Verona, one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world, and the forum has become the Piazza delle Erbe, a rich confection of Medieval and Renaissance buildings.
