For a few nights each summer, the sea and sky around the Bay of Cannes is lit up in the most spectacular fashion as the city plays host to the Pyrotechnic Art Festival. Since 1998 the skies above Cannes have been lit up by some of the world’s best pyrotechnics – translated as firework setter-offers! If you’re in the area, it’s well worth heading down to the bay to watch the spectacular fireworks light up the area.
Each year six countries are invited to battle it out to win the coveted ‘Vestale d’Argent’ and the Audience Prize. These countries have some of the best pyrotechnic artists in the world so I bet that’s not an easy judging job!
Because the fireworks are set off from barges in the bay, there are lots of spots around the area where you’ll get a fantastic view!
The event kicks off on 14 July 2016
The rest of the summer of fireworks looks like this:
Tuesday 21 July – fireworks by TBC
Wednesday 29 July – fireworks by TBC
Friday 7 August- fireworks by TBC
Saturday 15 August – fireworks by TBC
After these five shows, you can cast your vote for your favourite at the event’s website, click here.
The final night on Monday 24 August is hosted by France and is sure to go off with a bang! (sorry!)
Each show starts at 10pm and under the competition’s rules, it must last at least 25 minutes.
The perfect way to round off a day on the French Riviera!
