#1 The whistling kettle
It is the sound that signals fresh coffee is on its way. The high-pitched squeal comes dangerously close to being unbearably annoying, but somehow manages to pull off being endearing.
#2 Fresh baguettes and croissants
Is there any better way to start the day than sitting outside and tucking into warm, fresh supplies from the boulangerie? No. Argument over.
#3 Shorts and flip-flops
You are what you wear. Don a suit and tie and you’ll feel stressed, restricted and up-tight. Throw on some shorts and flip-flops and you’re a chilled-out holiday guru.
#4 Children let loose
A holiday campsite wouldn’t be the same without the heart-warming buzz of children laughing, whooping, arguing and crying. It might be more peaceful but definitely not as vibrant.
#5 Adventurous days out
From paragliding and paddle boarding to kayaking and mountain biking, adventuring in the great outdoors is THE way to add stand-out moments to a holiday.
#6 Badminton, ping-pong and frisbee
Being on a campsite is like carte blanche to engage in sporting mayhem such as 16 vs 16 footie matches, 500+ shot badminton rallies and epic ping-pong competitions.
#7 Fresh air and fine views
No concrete, high-rises or motorways in sight. No dirty city air. Just views that put a smile on your face and fresh air that makes you feel alive.
#8 Indulging in a page turner
Forget television. You don’t need X Factor or Downton Abbey at a campsite when you’ve got a good novel to enjoy.
#9 Foreign language mishaps
It’s kind of fun trying to recall those GCSE French lessons and communicate with the locals. But invariably your “je voudrais une…” or “ou est la…” will be replied in perfect English.
#10 Dining al-fresco
Wasps do their best to ruin it – but they can’t. Eat outdoors and somehow the food tastes better and the company is more fun. It’s magical.
