Ah Valentines… does it give you a warm feeling inside? At Canvas we get all starry-eyed when we think about holidays, because time away with your loved one (even if you’ve got the kids tagging along too), is time shared with the people who mean the most to you. Making memories; it’s what it’s all about.
Here’s our selection of sites to visit for romantic city breaks for 2 (or more) – book before 18th Feb 2019 for up to 35% off 2019 holidays and you can spend the money you saved on a lovely meal and a special bottle of wine while you are away – bliss!
Camping Fabulous is a great site to visit at any time during the season – it’s a wonderful base for getting outdoors and exploring with the National Park on the doorstep and the beach around 8 miles away. A day trip (or two) to Rome is a must and it is easily accessible via public transport – there is a frequent shuttle bus service to the Metro, which takes you within reach of all the main attractions. Buy tickets for both the train and the bus at a machine at the entrance for the site or from reception before travelling. You can also pre-buy your open bus tour tickets from the team at Fabulous. Rome is one of the most exciting cities in Europe with so much to see and do; take in some of the most-visited attractions including the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, St Peter’s Basilica and the amazing views from Palatine Hill. It’s a great city to wander around and of course stop off to sample great local food and drink.
Marina de Venezia is a superb site with direct access to the beach. It’s in the perfect location for a day trip to Venice – it’s only 2km to the harbour to catch the waterbus into the centre of Venice, which takes around 40 mins – talke about arriving in style!). If you don’t fancy the walk, in high season there are frequent shuttle buses from the site to the harbour. One of Europe’s most iconic cities, Venice is on many people’s bucket list for good reason. Take a trip on a gondola, admire the stunning architecture, explore the narrow streets and piazzas, visit some of the iconic paintings and indulge in some delicious Italian fare – some of the best restaurants are nestled down the alleyways away from the main tourist areas.
Whilst staying at the first-class Camping Duinrell, a visit to the vibrant city of Amsterdam is a must. The quickest and easiest way to visit Amsterdam is to take a 20 min walk into Wassenaar and take the bus to Leiden and from there it’s a 35 mins train journey into the city centre. Highlights include taking a boat trip on the canal network, The Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum and Anne Frank House. A trip wouldn’t be complete without indulging in stroopwafels, a local favourite dish.
