Things to do when camping in Istria

The stunning shores of the peninsula are home to many wonderful things to do while taking a camping holiday in Istria. There are beaches and bays dotted along the captivating coastline, featuring gorgeous azure waters that glitter under the sun. Top up your tan on the lovely beaches of Ambrela, Cuvi and Girandella.

There are several towns and villages that perch themselves on the waters of the Adriatic, inviting visitors to enjoy wandering their streets and learning their history. The medieval hilltop town Groznjan overlooks the Mirna valley lives and breathes art and music, while the town of Labin boasts beautiful remnants of its Venetian past in its architecture and museums.

With its lively cafés, charming harbour and colourful houses Rovinj feels and looks Italian, so it’s no surprise to discover that this picturesque fishing port was once part of the Venetian republic. Its narrow cobbled streets, tiny squares and quaint chimneys, are all overlooked by the church, with a copper statue of St. Euphemia acting as a weathervane.

Porec old town is traffic-free and restaurants are reasonably priced. Don’t miss the spectacular painted ceilings and mosaics in the Euphrasius Basilica. A little out of town is the superb Baredine cave, where the limestone features are said to resemble sculptures of buildings and people.

Legend has it that the 14 islands that make up Brijuni Islands are pieces of the Garden of Eden, placed here by angels. The largest island can be reached by ferry, where you can visit the Tito Museum and a Safari Park.

Children will love to visit one of the water parks on the peninsula, with the slides and water rides at Aquapark Istralandia and Aquapark Aquacolors attracted many visitors each year. Other attractions for kids include Pula Aquarium, Dinopark Funtana theme park and Glavani Park ziplining centre.
